Medicare Part D 2027 Plan Year

Your 2027 prescription coverage. A clearer view.

Understanding your drug coverage starts with the numbers—and knowing what they mean for your prescriptions. Review the 2027 limits, important coverage rules, and practical steps to take before choosing a plan.

2027 Covered-Drug Protection

$2,400

Annual Part D out-of-pocket limit

Once you reach this limit in qualifying out-of-pocket spending, you pay $0 for covered Part D drugs for the rest of the calendar year.

2027 Deductible Limit

$700

Maximum annual Part D deductible

Your plan may have a lower deductible or no deductible. Review its documents to see which prescriptions are subject to the deductible.

What to review for 2027

Look beyond the monthly premium

Compare your estimated annual costs, including premiums, the deductible, and copayments or coinsurance for your specific prescriptions.

A plan with a lower premium may cost more overall, depending on your medications and pharmacy.

Check your prescriptions and pharmacy

  • Confirm each medication, dosage, and quantity on the plan’s covered-drug list.
  • Review drug tiers and preferred pharmacy pricing.
  • Check prior authorization, step therapy, and quantity limits.

Understand the payment plan option

The Medicare Prescription Payment Plan lets you spread out-of-pocket costs for covered Part D drugs across the remaining months of the calendar year.

It changes when you pay, not the total amount you owe. Monthly bills can vary, and your plan premium remains a separate payment.

Avoid gaps in creditable coverage

After your Initial Enrollment Period ends, going 63 days or more in a row without Part D or other creditable prescription coverage may result in a late-enrollment penalty.

Keep your creditable coverage notices and confirm how joining Part D could affect employer or retiree benefits before making changes.

Explore Extra Help

Extra Help assists people who qualify with Medicare prescription drug costs. Eligibility generally depends on income and resources; some people qualify automatically.

If you receive Extra Help, the Part D late-enrollment penalty does not apply while you receive that assistance.
